HOUSEofCARDS

Artist Retreat at Honey Locust

A Retreat for Artists and Scholars

The Honey Locust artist retreat is located on thirty acres of pasture along Bayou Bourbeaux between the towns of Arnaudville and Grand Coteau. In 2021, UL architecture program finished the HOUSEofCARDS to serve as a flexible residency space for artists, scholars and creatives of all kinds. It is a simple, single-room dwelling serenely situated near a man-made pond between cow fields.

Honey Locust is not currently taking open requests for residency stays. As a freshly launched project, we have no blanket approach to accepting or inviting residence, but mostly take referrals via local arts and cultural organizations. Beyond the limits of the HOUSEofCARDS itself, residencies can be tailored to the individual needs of the resident in terms of length of time and organization of the space.

UL and the HOUSEofCARDS

UL Architecture Professor Geoff Gjertson, director of the University's Building Institute, proposed the HOUSEofCARDS concept for the retreat at Honey Locust. UL architecture students designed and built this unique and dynamic structure utilizing cast-in-place insulated concrete.
